LetzEat is a fresh, new concept for a cooking class…
It has been designed to show you how to create great tasting food in a simple and easy-to-understand way. All ingredients are readily available at any local supermarket, there is no special equipment needed. If you have a stove, an oven and a microwave, you're ready to rock..
Unlike most cooking classes and television cooking shows, LetzEat will NOT intimidate you. The classes have been designed to provide you with the basic knowledge and preparation of a variety of different foods including appetizers, salads, side dishes and main meals.
THESE CLASSES HAVE BEEN DESIGNED FOR BEGINNER LEVEL COOKS (or cooking wanna-be's) and people who just want to take a boring food item to another level.
If you feel you are an advanced cook, then book one of those fancy-schmantzy cooking courses somewhere else, although you will be missing out on a lot of fun.
Classes run approximately 2 hours with a 10 minute break at “half time” to get a beverage refill, a beverage ‘purge” or just to stretch your legs.
You are welcome to purchase alcoholic beverages in the Public Market and enjoy them during the presentation.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, Class sizes are limited to 12 people maximum.
Water will be provided.
A typical class will include a demonstration and recipes AND sample tastings of all (4) items demonstrated;
- An Appetizer or starter
- A side item
- A Main course
- An additional Main course or an additional side item
Classes will also include Bonus mini-lessons “Johnny’s Cheap Tricks” and “Johnny’s Focus On Food”
Samplings of each item that is prepared will be handed out for you to enjoy and to ask questions.
There will be a variety of different cooking themes offered; Oriental, Comfort Food, Salads, Pastas… check out our class descriptions for more details.
John Thomsen is a self-taught kitchen groupie that has spent his entire career in the food service and food graphic design industry.
His passion is creating simple, easy-to-make meals for his friends and family. Now, he wants to share his unique, casual style of cooking with you.
John’s creative and humorous style of teaching has created many class participants a “comfort zone” in their own kitchens. That is his goal...to take the intimidation out of planning and preparing meals for YOUR friends and family.
Most of the items you will be sampling during the class will have been pre-made within 4 hours of class time at the Lenexa Market Kitchen Facility.
These items will be made EXACTLY like the items that will be prepared in the class.
You will be required to sign a liability waiver before sampling any food items that are handed out in class
(dumb old insurance rules...)
Unfortunately, this is NOT a hand's-on cooking class.
Again, the insurance guys reared their ugly heads about that idea, too. :(
COVID-19 UPDATE FOR CLASSES: In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we've updated our procedures for classes. This includes, but is not limited to:
*In accordance with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly's executive order mandating mask usage means that you'll need to wear a barrier face mask while attending a class at the Public Market. The only exception is people are exempt from wearing a mask "while they are eating or drinking, provided they maintain a 6-foot distance between individuals."
*Barrier face masks will be available for participants who do not have their own.
*We've limited class sizes to accommodate social distancing. Participants will be spaced six feet apart from each other, and will not be required to work with anyone outside of the person/people they came with. Participants who are taking a class with a friend or family member etc. will be seated together.
*We thoroughly clean all the tables, chairs, and equipment before and after each class.
*Limits on class size will be in accordance with state and county guidelines.
*Check with individual instructors on any specific class expectations.
Your patience and understanding during this time is appreciated.
